Why not make giving the Gift of Time your resolution for 2020?
At the beginning of December we launched our Gift of Time campaign. This campaign highlights the importance of volunteering, and spending time with local seniors in order to avoid social isolation and loneliness. Throughout this campaign we also wanted to take the time to shine a light on some of our amazing current volunteers!
Meet Ron. Ron joined our Café team this year after hearing about the volunteer program at Ocean View. When asked why he decided to start volunteering Ron says “volunteering at Ocean View gets me out in the community and lets me lend a helping hand, it also gives me a sense of purpose”. He also says that it is important for him to volunteer to build “jobs skills and experience, confidence and self-respect”.
For Ron, the most rewarding part of working in the café has been the social aspect, “knowing I am helping the clients of Ocean View and I get to interact with lots of different people!”
What’s his experience at Ocean View been like? “It has taught me patience because I am dealing with the public. The management are respectful of me and gave me this opportunity”.
