Title: VOLUNTEEN SUPERVISOR
Department: Volunteer Services
Responsible To: Director of Community Relations
Qualifications:

  1. Enrollment in a relevant, post-secondary program such as; Human Resource Management,
    Health Sciences, Public Relations, Social Work, Gerontology, or Recreation Leisure Studies.
  2. Possess the following characteristics and skills; strong interpersonal skills, including active
    listening and empathy, effective oral and written communication skills, excellent
    organizational and planning skills, creative problem-solving and good assessment skills.
  3. Demonstrated leadership ability with peers or youth in group settings.
  4. Previous experience with the elderly preferred.
  5. Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the recruitment of teen volunteers through advertisement, flyers, posters, school
    visits.
  2. Assist with screening, interviewing and reference checking of potential teen volunteers.
  3. Assist with coordination of an initial orientation training session for new volunteers, and a
    refresher orientation for returning volunteers.
  4. Liaise with Recreation Staff (or other departments as appropriate) in coordinating volunteer
    participation in the weekly events scheduled.
  5. Schedule volunteers in response to identified needs – both in Ocean View and on organized
    community outings.
  6. Supervise and support volunteers by regular meetings and ongoing informal contacts.
  7. Assist with the creation of new volunteer opportunities – specifically on nursing units and 1:1
    visiting assignments.
  8. Maintain accurate statistics of each teen volunteer in the program
  9. Prepare submissions for the internal newsletter, the Ocean Breeze
  10. Plan, in conjunction with the Manager of Volunteer Services, a recognition event to celebrate
    the conclusion of the summer volunteen program.
  11. Assist with and /or support the daily activities of residents, as required

acts.
• Promotes a safe and healthy workplace for staff and volunteers
• Promotes a safe and healthy environment for residents and their families
• Participates, when required in initiatives that minimize risk and promote safety
• Ensures that risks are minimized and proactively addressed for the interest of the Ocean View

Term: mid- May to August 31, 2022. Hourly wage: $15.50. Hours: 35 per week,.
