The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) representing staff across the Province may be in a legal strike position as early as Monday, April 13th at 7:00am. The CUPE union is made of CCAs, diet aids, cooks, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, seamstress’ ,and hairdressing staff.
Across the sector we are preparing to minimize the difficulties that arise during a strike and lock out scenario. Under the provincially mandated Essential Services Agreement (ESA) critical services—including nursing care, medication administration, meal service, and personal care—will continue.
Please know that all essential services and the health, safety, and well-being of our residents remain our top priority. Our objective during such a period is to maintain essential services with non-striking employees, non-unionized employees and replacement workers that may include contracted staff and volunteers.
During this period, all non-essential activities and programming will be temporarily paused due to staffing limitations. Support from families can make a meaningful difference for our residents. If loved ones are looking for ways to help, assistance during mealtimes or spending time visiting with residents would be greatly appreciated.
If you are able and would like to bring your loved one home for a short visit or overnight during this time, we welcome those arrangements and ask that you coordinate with the neighbhourhood team in advance.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate this situation together. Your loved one’s safety and well-being remain our highest priority. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your neighbourhood team if you have questions or concerns. https://oceanv.ca/contact/
