Dear Stakeholder,

As you know, Ocean View was one of three nursing homes to participate in the initial Provincial COVID-19 vaccination rollout in long term care in Nova Scotia. At this time, we must notify you of a situation that has come to our attention regarding the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations at our facility.

We have discovered that some Ocean View residents living on Skyview & Islandview neighbourhoods may have received vaccinations that had passed the Moderna recommended timeframe for usage while in storage at our facility. At this time, we have reached out directly to the impacted residents or family members by phone or in person.

We have reported this to Public Health officials and Moderna, and we are working with them to determine next steps. We are waiting for additional information from Moderna on how to proceed. We have not noted any side effects, and we continue to monitor residents closely.

In the meantime, we want to assure you that we continue to follow strong infection prevention and control protocols at Ocean View as directed by Public Health.

We are committed to addressing this situation. The learnings from a thorough internal review will provide our leadership team and Board of Directors with the information to understand how this happened, and to ensure we can reduce risk moving forward.

We know that COVID-19 vaccination is a sign of hope for our residents, their loved ones, and our team, and that this will be disappointing news for all. We want you to know that we are also deeply disappointed about this situation, and are committed to taking the necessary steps to address it fully.

We know many residents and family members may have questions and encourage them to reach out directly to our newly installed family question line at 902-465-6020 ext. 2899.
