IMMEDIATE NEED FOR IN-HOME SUPPORT WORKERS (IHSW) TO WORK IN OCEAN VIEW’s REGIONAL CARE UNIT

ALL POSITIONS WILL BE FOR A ONE (1) YEAR TERM

Facility:                            Ocean View Continuing Care Centre
Location:                          Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia
Unit:                                 Regional Care Unit

Positions Available:         8 Full-time and 4 Part-time (2 X 0.8 FTE & 2X 0.6 FTE)

Overview:

In order to prepare for the next wave of COVID-19, Port City has partnered with Ocean View and the Nova Scotia Health Authority to operate a Regional Care Unit (RCU).  This unit will be dedicated to the cohorting and care of COVID patients from designated Long Term Care facilities, at the Ocean View site, in the hopes it will help these residents from across our region weather this storm.

We are looking to hire staff to become a part of the RCU team at and make your mark during this time that will be remembered.  We are looking for individuals who want to make a difference to; those who are most vulnerable, their loved ones and our community.

Job Summary:

The In-Home Support Worker supports clients living in nursing homes.  Some of these duties will include:

  • Providing meal assistance
  • Assisting clients to/from/during scheduled activities
  • One on one client support
  • Answering call bells and supporting clients with requests
  • Tidy client’s rooms and changing bed linens

Qualifications:

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age with demonstrated experience and relevant education.
  • Food safety training required (training will be provided if necessary).
  • Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with seniors with varying levels of abilities.
  • Experience in maintaining a clean environment.
  • Able to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Current clean criminal record and vulnerable sector checks.
  • Experience or training in this field (i.e. PSW, training in feeding, etc.) would be an asset.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle an asset.
  • Ability to work shift work

Rates: $15.25 – 15.75/hour + a phone allowance

Hours of Work:  shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
