Job Summary: The Recreation Programmer is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating leisure/therapeutic recreation on an individual basis and/or group program.  The Recreation Programmer must demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, and psycho-social benefits that therapeutic recreation provides in maintaining and/or enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies or a two (2) year community college diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Gerontology Certificate an asset
  • Minimum one year work experience in providing leadership in recreation planning and implementing of programs in a long-term care setting an asset
  • Possess current Class Four Driver’s License, or be willing to obtain such, with excellent driving record
  • Possess current Emergency First Aide/CPR Certification
  • Maintaining an active membership with the NS Therapeutic Recreation Association and keeping current with new programming approaches and trends in the field, an asset
  • Must possess the following characteristics and skills: strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy; effective oral and written communication skills; excellent organizations and planning skills; creative problem-solving and good assessment skills
  • Basic computer skills required

Salary Range:  In accordance with current collective agreement between Ocean View Continuing Care Centre and C.U.P.E. Local 1245

Hours of Work:  Days / Evenings / Weekends
