CEO's Message

Hello and thanks for stopping by our corner of the web world! Ocean View is pleased to be a trusted provider of excellence in service in our community for over 50 years.

Through our long term care services and various community programs we are proud partners for approximately 600 people per year. This is made possible through the service and dedication of approximately 420 staff and volunteers. We are proud of the development of our social enterprise model where everyone plays a part in helping all Nova Scotian’s live well in the place that they call home.

Being governed by a Board of Directors has enabled our work to be about a charitable “cause” which we have embraced as part of our mission and vision. The Board has developed a social enterprise model of working, engaging the entire community in our work and aspirations. The organization has evolved over the past 50 years to embrace the need to change and respond to community needs and expectations. Change is imminent in our health and social system and Ocean View is proud to be leading the way in helping change the way we think about health and aging.

Our I-CARE values include fostering innovation, providing comfort, promoting autonomy, demonstrating respect, and enabling empowerment are the cornerstone of our work. Ocean View operates the very first nursing home in Nova Scotia to be granted “Accreditation” by Accreditation Canada in 1974………a standard of excellence that we still celebrate and achieve to this day. Our long term care home provides an array of services including a respite bed for our community. Individualized care is provided in a safe environment where we are committed to the dignity of taking risks as we age. Staff come from a variety of disciplines in the health professions including regulated nurses, continuing care assistants, recreation programmers, physio and occupational therapy, spiritual care, clinical dietetics, and social work. Personal touches and love are also extended by staff in maintenance, food services, laundry, housekeeping, and administrative support staff. Active volunteers complement our comfort, care, and compassion in many clinical and non-clinical areas.

Ocean View also started the 1st in Canada, Village to Village program for those 55+ living in the community. A movement that began in the US, the “Neighbourhood” concept allows members to access timely and affordable (vetted) home and health services while capitalizing on member strengths to give back to our movement. With over 40 vendors, lifestyle assistants, ride programs, health and social opportunities, etc. there is nothing you need in your community that we cannot locate or provide ourselves at a discounted rate. More information on the services and benefits of membership is available on this website, and if you want to remain home for as long as possible, I encourage you to take a peek.

Home supports as we age are very important to us at Ocean View and we have services available in our foot care and adult day programs for the city of Halifax to access.

Whether you are here looking for long term care and or an array of services to serve you at home, volunteer opportunities, or paid employment I’m sure you’ll find the right tools and resources at your fingertips on our site.

Thanks again for stopping by!
